This tiny West African nation may be modest in size, but its history and culture is larger than life
It was once a part of the infamous Slave Coast, from which Africans were transported to Haiti, Cuba and the United States. Today, the remnants of colonialism have been almost stamped out, and people flock to Togo for other reasons. Healers from all across West Africa come here for animal parts and fetishwares, and locals seek remedies among the market stalls. Togo’s museums are another must for citizens and visitors alike, with some of the best collections of art and artifacts on the continent.
